Video showing footage of the tent surviving this incredible storm that left other high tensile structures in tatters!

While other high tensile stretch structures lay in tatters and businesses were left picking up the pieces the morning after a Force 10 super typhoon tore through Hong Kong on the 15th of September 2018, a custom Freeform® tent installation for Zak’s Restaurant, installed 2 years ago, survived its second force 10 Typhoon, with no damage apart from a few straightened stainless steel carbines.

As recorded on Wikipedia,’The typhoon made landfall in Baggao, Cagayan at 2:00 a.m. PST on September 15 (18:00 UTC on September 14), with 10-minute sustained winds of 205 km/h (125 mph) and 1-minute sustained winds of 270 km/h (165 mph).[2] This made Mangkhut the strongest storm to strike the island of Luzon since Typhoon Megi in 2010, and the strongest nationwide since Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.[19]’.

The tent’s survival is testimony to a great team effort between Freeform® as stretch tent manufacturer and the designer / installers, Event Canopies Hong Kong, who design permanent and semi-permanent solutions to cover space with membrane lightweight structures.

Says Clive Kirsten of ECH, “A successful installation requires both a creative architectural approach as well as high degree of engineering to achieve optimised and efficient structures that can safely withstand the extreme weather conditions the region is subjected to.”

“Inherently, our canopies are resilient and the unique, dynamic force distribution quality manages changing load conditions. This makes it strong and safe even in extreme conditions. We back that up with good preparation procedures, specialist knowledge, experience and careful planning.”

This is the second typhoon that this 600m2 custom stretch tent has survived in the last 2 years. It’s survival goes down to a combination of our quality Freeformflex® Premium stretch tent fabric, coupled with clever design and careful installation techniques.
