SA Life Saving Championships is an annual event where South Africa’s top life savers pit their skills, strength and endurance against one another over an epic 4 days. This year the event was hosted by Clifton Surf Lifesaving on the trendy beach of Camps Bay – a blue flag status beach in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. The event saw over 600 hundred competitors take part while hundreds more descended the beach over the 4 days to enjoy the fun, sun and watch these life-saving heroes battle it out in the water.
In true Cape style, the South Easter howled on the evening of the set up but with 8 experienced riggers Freeform® had 5 tents up (10mx12m – 10mx15m – 18mx25m – Octobar 380m2 – F-600m2) in under just 8 hours using 1.2m pegs and special pegging plates to ensure a secure rig in the sand for the duration of the event.
A surprise high tide caused a little havoc on the first day making only half of the main tent usable but Freeform® were quick to the rescue, supplying and rigging a 18×15 modular stretch tent a little higher up on the beach to accommodate the rising waters.
As temperatures soared over the 4 days – our tents provided a welcome respite from the sun for competitors and spectators alike.

The circular tent pictured here, shows our F600 Octabar 380 in action. The Octabar 380 is a 21,5m x 21,5m circular tent with 8 entrances. The entrances can be closed with see-thru sidewalls for added weather protection, privacy, or security as needed. This tent was rigged for the competitors themselves as a space for team meetings, equipment storage etc.
A standard modular stretch tent 10m x 12m was rigged canopy-style, alongside the F600 Octabar, for maximum visibility for the event officials and judges.
Official event sponsors, Bos Ice Tea were highly visible on the day with their custom branded yellow 10mx15m Freeform® Stretch Tent. This tent was manufactured and branded for BOS back in 2013 and continues to work hard and look good as a brand investment today!
